My browser bookmarks got way out of hand again, so I went through them to try and clean them up a bit. As usual, there were a bunch of videos in there that I’d pretty much forgotten. Maybe you’ll enjoy some of them like I did.
Bill Hader impersonates Arnold Schwarzenegger [DeepFake]
That it’s possible for someone with a plain old computer can, with a couple of photographs and the right software, make a reasonably realistic simulation of someone else both fascinates and bothers me. In this case, though, I think seamlessly changing Bill Hader’s face to look more like Arnold’s adds to the amusement. In the context of the video, hearing him say, “I WANNA WATCH DOC MCSTUFFINS” cracks me up.
Orson Welles Drunk Wine Commercial Outtakes + Final Dubbed Version
aaaAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, the French…
Loz’s magnificent 7-tone fart symphony – the #1 video in the world, for one day in May 2015.
So, this guy and his brother used to record audio of their toots and send them to each other. One of them was musical enough that he built a song around it and put it on the Internet. Truly, we live in a wondrous age.
Random Acts Of Genius Vandalism
Some of these are pretty great. The X-Men sign in particular made me laugh pretty hard. The music in this one’s kind of annoying, so you may want to turn the volume down.
Atlas Robot – Swearing Mod – Boston Dynamics
Boston Dynamics has a couple of different robot models that are pretty neat. Every once in a while they post videos of how well their robots handle rough terrain or being knocked off-balance. Someone took one of those videos and added a voice (and appropriate bleeping) that changes a good video into a GREAT video. The very last line of the video cracked me up and reminded me of Bender from Futurama.
So that’s all for this installment. I hope you found something in there that made you smile. As an aside, I don’t like how Firefox handles bookmarks now. Remember the old days where you could create folders for your bookmarks and have everything show up when you clicked the bookmarks icon?
I have always found rubber chickens amusing and curious. Amusing because, hey, rubber chickens! Curious, because what environment or frame of mind would someone have to be in to have come up with the idea? Anyway, here’s the crazy Garage 54 crew carefully fabricating an intricate… who am I kidding, it’s an exhaust pipe with rubber chickens on it. The good stuff starts at about 2:35.
Animals reacting to musical instruments
Here’s what the Internet has taught me. Cows like music. Parrots… do not.
The Floppotron: Knight Rider Theme
I was pretty happy when I figured out how to make an old 3.5” floppy drive play the first six notes of the Super Mario Bros. theme. Then I saw this. His Inspector Gadget theme is pretty amazing, too.
Gregorius: NMKY (live on TV)
This video has EVERYTHING. Creepy keyboardist, check. A bored bassist and a guitar player who looks like he would do almost anything to get out of there? Check and check. Words that are probably have letters with dots over them, check! Intricate and perfectly synchronized choreography? Check!
It’s been a little while since I posted some weird or cheesy videos that make me chuckle. I haven’t been browsing around as much so I haven’t just stumbled across as many but here are a few of the better ones. Enjoy!
The first time I saw this video, I didn’t realize it was two comedians doing a sketch. It’s so well done and utterly believable that this could be a real politician being interviewed by a real journalist. The “minimum crew” line gets me every time.
Sick Trombone Motorcycle Prank
Well, it’s really more a Sick Trombone Car (Or Maybe A Truck) Prank, but it’s still amusing. It sounds pretty good right at the beginning but loses a bit as the video goes on.
Goose and dog Beagle best friends
I like videos like this. I always wonder how these very different animals become actual buddies who hang out, instead of having the typical predator/prey or large/small or bossy/timid relationship.
It’s short, but the guy waving and saying, “Hi!” makes me chuckle every time.
Snickers Betty White Commercial (English Version)
The first time I saw this commercial, I laughed and laughed and laughed… I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. RIP Abe Vigoda – you were a class act.
I think that no matter the mood, there’s really no bad time for happy or amusing videos or GIFs. Some days when I’m feeling low I need to remind myself to sit down and watch something enjoyable, and it usually helps cheer me up – at least a bit.
Here are some more videos that I’ve stumbled across that I enjoy. Hopefully you’ll find a couple that you like too!
This is an old one that I keep forgetting about and rediscovering. I especially like how he gets louder near the end.
Hysterical bubbles! (original) – laughing baby
I have no idea why the baby finds this so funny or why the dog doesn’t mind the taste of soap, but I wish I laughed that hard more often!
Side by Side of the Simon & Simon intro and parody
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Simon & Simon when it was on TV. It was probably meant for a slightly older audience than me but I thought it was great. Rick’s Power Wagon (with Macho Package) was a great vehicle – almost on the same level as Herbie or even KITT. This is a side-by-side comparison of the original TV intro and a remake starring Adam Scott and Jon Hamm as AJ and Rick. I think it’s really well done.
Bike Trick In Bedroom Breaks TV
Thanks for the help, Mom. You too, dog. Don’t call an ambulance or anything – my spine normally juts out of my calf like that.
Rubber Chickens Harmonizing
Here’s another one that’s made the rounds of the Internet a few times but always makes me smile. I find rubber chickens amusing but it would never have occurred to me to try this if I came across a bin full of them.
Extra: THE DUCK BOMB (MYTHBUSTERS)
I originally thought the previous rubber chicken video was fake or edited to make the unholy scream sound more… unholy. Fortunately, Adam Savage got wind of the original video and decided to try it himself, thereby proving that yes – pressing on a lot of rubber chickens/ducks at the same time makes it sound like someone left the door to Hell open.
With some of the stuff that’s going on in the world, I’ve been feeling down lately. Fortunately, there are a lot of people out there who put stuff out there that’s good at making me smile or chuckle – intentionally or not. Here’s another collection of videos that helped cheer me up, even on the bad days. Enjoy!
If you’re interested, Part I is HERE, and Part II is HERE.
Ready to Monday: Take on Me by The Band of the Bold (part 1)
This one doesn’t make me chuckle so much as it makes me smile. It looks like friends having fun being weird, and sometimes that’s the best kind of fun to have!
Weather Map Goes Crazy Live on the Air
When something goes wrong, you have two choices: try to fix it, or go with it. This guy does the right thing.
People Try Moonshine For The First Time
From the now-defunct Facts. channel comes a great video featuring Irish people trying moonshine of various colours and flammability (warning: some “interesting” language in this one).
Jasper Pet Skunk Crying to be Picked Up
I grew up out in the country, and I’ve seen (and been with spraying distance of) more than enough skunks. I’ve never heard one make little motor noises, though…
Hulk’s Purple Pants | Robot Chicken | Adult Swim
Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk when he gets angry. Purple pants are hard to find. The joke tells itself, and Robot Chicken does it really well.
It seems like everything today is competing for attention. Commercials, TV shows, healthy living trends, real estate agents, political candidates/parties, monster trucks… I’m not saying any of it is bad, but some days it can seem pretty relentless.
Every once in a while, I run across something that – instead of demanding my attention and trying to stretch my mind – I find to be quiet and calming. Some of the videos are designed to be relaxing, while there are others that probably aren’t intended to be that way but end up relaxing me anyway. Maybe you will find some of them useful to help unpack your brain at the end of a stressful day or perhaps they will help take your mind off of something that’s bothering you.
Some of the following videos are very long and I haven’t watched or listened to the whole thing so I can’t be sure there isn’t an interruption or something surprising in them somewhere. Watcher beware, I guess.
This amazing video by Alphonse Swinehart is a 45 minute journey at the speed of light through the solar system. It starts at the sun and ends just past the orbit of Jupiter. The music is good, the graphics are impressive, and it even shows the orbits of the planets as you get far enough from the sun for them to be put into perspective. You can download the video, too, and put it on your tablet or phone and watch/listen to it whenever or wherever you want.
Dan Gibson – Thunderstorm In The Wilderness
We have several of the Solitudes series of CDs by Dan Gibson. There are a couple of tracks that I really like but I think this one is my favourite out of all of them. It’s a thunderstorm, but it’s relaxing – slow rolling thunder and some rain falling at a pond or perhaps a creek. It’s not a wild ride with hail and crashing booms and coyotes blowing through the air. This is one of the two tracks I have been experimenting with listening to (along with a track of waves at a beach) to help blot out the real world when I’m doing my mindfulness and worry exercises. Seems to be working so far.
Guinea Pig Muffin Sleeping
I like guinea pigs. They’re cute, they each have their own personality, and (for the most part) they love snuggling up to their humans. This video here shows a very relaxed pig, ears twitching and mouth moving while it dreams. It’s not a very long video, but it makes me wish I was zonked out on a comfy bed, having pleasant dreams.
Beautiful Coral Reef Fish – Relaxing Aquarium and White Sounds 1080p HD
I have always found it relaxing to watch fish as they slowly wander around in the water. Sometimes I’ll pull up a chair to Lloyd’s aquarium and watch him and Buddy leisurely go about their days. There are a lot of relaxing fish videos out there but most of them are set to music and I prefer the water sounds. You may want to turn the volume down a bit for this one – I like the sound but find it a little loud.
11 hrs. Healing Sea #1 – No Music – Gentle Ocean Waves – Soothing Sound Of Ocean
A camera perched on an empty beach, watching the waves roll in. The sound of the waves rushing up the sand and breaking. No beach umbrellas, no dune buggies, no water skiers. Just the sand and the water and the air.
I hope you find some of these videos useful and/or enjoyable!
Here is another selection of videos that can help cheer me up when I’m feeling bad or when it feels like time is standing still (in a bad way).
You can find my original post of videos that make me smile here.
There’s nothing like a friendly face and a catchy, upbeat song to chase the clouds away.
Brain Surgeon – That Mitchell & Webb Look , Series 3 – BBC Two
You can see it coming from a mile away, but it’s still funny when it hits.
Don’t Touch Me
Take an old cartoon, chop it up and dub it with different voices, and what do you get? Pure, unfettered awesomeness, that’s what. I should put this on my phone and play it loud whenever I leave the house.
Whose Line – Colin’s “Weird Newscasters” joke (reindeer)
Whose Line is one of my favourite shows, and Colin Mochrie cracks me up. I think this is one of the funniest jokes he ever made on the show. You know it’s good when the rest of the cast starts laughing!
True Facts About The Sea Pig
Another valuable biology lesson from Ze Frank. This video reminds me to be grateful that I don’t have a cloaca.
